KINGSVILLE, Texas — A pair of Greyhounds were honored Thursday, as the Lone Star Conference dished out its postseason softball awards.

Honored for the Greyhounds were freshman outfielder Iliana Mendoza, a third-team selection, and sophomore outfielder Kayla Marshall for the LSC’s all-academic team.

The awards were announced at the postseason banquet prior to the two-day tournament.

Regular season champ Texas A&M-Kingsville had eight players receive an All-LSC nod, with a league-high five first-team selections. That included freshman pitcher Saidi Castillo, who shared LSC freshman of the year honors with Cameron second baseman Khmari Edwards.

West Texas A&M first baseman Kylee Moore was selected as the player of the year, while Emily Otto of Texas A&M-Commerce took top pitcher honors.

Angelo State’s Hatty Shope was newcomer of the year, despite not making any of the All-LSC teams, and Kingsville’s Craig Nicholson was coach of the year.

Jordan Withrow of Tarleton State, a first-team selection at pitcher, was the academic player of the year.
