Police seek 'persons of interest' in homicide

PORTALES — Police on Friday requested public assistance in locating two “persons of interest” in connection with their homicide investigation from the weekend prior.

Police responded around 1 a.m. April 7 to the 400 block of Portales’ North Avenue B “regarding an individual that had been shot,” according to a news release.

That individual was identified as Adam Holts, 35.

By Friday, officials said they had not yet identified any suspects but that Portales Police Department and the region's Major Crimes Unit were “continuing to investigate.”

“At this time we only have persons of interest and we will inform the public of further information as it is available for release,” PPD wrote in an online post Friday afternoon.

“We ask that if the public has any information, video or other evidence regarding this incident they are encouraged to contact (PPD).”

The “persons of interest” were featured in a post earlier that day from PPD. Manuel Silva Jr, who is “currently wanted for unrelated felony charges,” and Morgan Carmichael are “believed to be traveling in (a) Volkswagen Jetta.” Photos attached to the post included pictures of Silva and Carmichael, as well as a surveillance image of a man wearing white shoes and a black hooded sweatshirt and pants standing in a parking lot beside a dark-colored Jetta with Texas plates.

Contacted with additional questions, PPD Lt. Chris Williams told The News on Friday afternoon that all the information available was in the news releases online.

“At this time this is all we have,” he wrote. “I would direct you to our Facebook page for current releases of information.”

Williams specified that Silva and Carmichael “are not suspects.”

Police are still “conducting interviews, executing search warrants and following up on leads,” said their last post Friday.

Attempts to contact family and friends of the victim were not successful. His Facebook page reports he is from Ocala, Florida, but it's not clear how long he may have been in Portales.
