“The Whispered Word” by Ellery Adams intrigues with the story of Nora Pennington and her friends as they encounter Abilene, a secretive young woman in need of a new beginning. After the suspicious death of a customer, Nora discovers a connection that points to Abilene as either a suspect or another target.
“The Range Detectives” by William W. Johnstone keeps the suspense going to the last page when two range detectives are hired by the Cattle Raisers Association to catch a murdering rustler. Stovepipe Stewart and Wilbur Coleman look like a pair of high plains drifters, but with their razor-sharp detective skills and rare talent for trouble, they become the last remaining hope for one young cowboy who’s been arrested for the crime.
“The Little Shop of Found Things” by Paula Brackston blends magic and romance when Xanthe and her mother leave London for a fresh start, taking over an antique shop in the historic town of Marlborough. After touching a beautiful silver chatelaine, she is transported back to the 17th century where a ghost reveals the antique’s origins and tasks Xanthe with putting right the injustice in its story to save an innocent girl’s life.
“Flowers and Foul Play” by Amanda Flower follows Fiona Knox to Scotland to inherit her godfather’s cottage. As the caretaker shows her around, Fiona discovers the once resplendent grounds of Duncreigan in a dreadful shambles and a dead body in the garden. Now swept into the murder investigation, Fiona soon realizes she may lose her life as well.
“Projects to Get You Off the Grid” by Instructables focuses on a series of projects designed to get you thinking creatively about going green. Clear directions and photos teach how to make a backyard chicken coop, turn a wine barrel into a rainwater collector, run your lawn mower with solar power, build a thermoelectric lamp, and so much more!
“John Wilkes Booth and the Women Who Loved Him” by E. Lawrence Abel looks not just at the man, but at how he related to women. As the closest thing they had in the Civil War era to a movie star, Booth had a number of relationships based on different things — sex, real sentiment, and one perhaps based on cold-blooded political need. Abel looks at their roles in his life up to the assassination, then looks at their lives after Booth.
“The Rescued Dog Problem Solver” by Tracy Libby seeks to make the story of every adopted dog a predestined success and enable them to stay in their new forever homes. To assure this, rescuers must be prepared to handle and confidently resolve unwanted behaviors these animals learned while with their previous owners or in a shelter. Proven positive-training methods with empowering stories of rescued dogs that defied the odds may well help to keep America’s adoption trend moving forward.
