Purple Pride honorees named

CLOVIS — Honorees have been named for this year’s Purple Pride Hall of Honor induction and banquet.

The banquet is scheduled for 6 p.m. May 11 at the Clovis Civic Center.

The annual ceremony is an effort of the Clovis Municipal Schools Foundation and the CMS alumni committee to recognize Clovis High graduates whose achievements, character and citizenship serve as models for current students.

Inductees are:

• Bubba Jennings, Class of 1980 (sports and entertainment)

• William Phillips, Class of 1970 (government and service)

• Rudy Garcia, Class of 1984 (government and service)

• Jerry Large, Class of 1972 (government and service)

• Tina Reames, Class of 1986 (business and industry)

• Stacee Santi Longfellow, Class of 1989 (business and industry)

Additionally, John Urban will be posthumously honored with the Top Cat Award, created to recognize faculty members or other individuals who showed outstanding service and support to the district.

Tickets are $40 each and will be available starting April 9 at the CMS Administration Office. There are discounts for tables of eight ($295) and 10 ($350).

Clovis dance teams compete

CLOVIS — Dance teams from Clovis High School, CHS Freshman Academy and Marshall, Yucca and Gattis middle schools competed Saturday in the Santa Fe Dance Invitational.

Dancers from CHS and Gattis received invitations to participate in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Capital One Bowl and San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks games next season.

Awards by school were:

CHS varsity: Best of the Best, First Place (16 teams competed); Best in Class, Small High School Division; Sweepstakes Award; Gussie Nell Davis Award; Outstanding Team; Best in Class Duet, Gahbrielle and Devynne McBride; Academic Champions and High School Division (3.79 GPA); Judges Award, Pom, Military, Hip Hop and Novelty; Texas Motion Sports Wow Factor Award, Military; First Runner Up Soloist High School Division, Trystan Hennessy; Giving Back Award, Volunteer Work (Sandia Elementary School); Second Runner Up Soloist High School Division, Gahbrielle McBride and Allie Berg; Best in Class Ensemble, Mazdin Grim, Trystan Hennessy and Ashley Eisenmann; Platinum Award, Excellence in Precision, Presentation, Choreography and Technique
