The National Weather Service has issued a “high wind watch” for eastern New Mexico on Wednesday. Forecasters also are predicting more than an inch of rain for the area on Tuesday.

Rain is expected to begin about 6 tonight with thunderstorms likely throughout the day Tuesday.

After that, batten down the hatches.

“Power outages, downed or damaged trees, and extremely difficult travel conditions are possible” on Wednesday, NWS warns.

The Curry-Roosevelt county area is expected to see west winds of 40-50 mph with gusts between 60 and 75 mph, according to NWS.

“Winds area wide could easily toss outdoor furniture, or blow over commercial vehicles,” the watch predicts. “Winds will subside near or shortly after sunset for most areas, but will persist well into the evening across northeast New Mexico.”
