Portales to consider raising system fares on area transit

March 3, 2019

PORTALES — Riders on the Portales Area Transit may see a fare increase following Tuesday’s Portales City Council meeting.

One of three items from the public works department is a proposed increase to move the PAT fare from 75 cents to $1, City Manager Sammy Standefer said.

Standefer said it has been several years since the PAT fare was increased, with changes in fees typically tied to the program’s grant funding.

If approved, Standefer said the change would go into effect July 1.

Other items on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers of the Memorial Building, include:

• The board will hear a presentation on goal setting at the Portales Municipal Airport, which Standefer said is an annual requirement of the Federal Aviation Administration.

• The board will consider a memorandum of understanding between the city and the Roosevelt County Community Development Corporation for a feasibility study related to the Rec Center.

The council previously approved turning the Rec Center into an entertainment venue and Standefer said a feasibility study is needed to prove to prospective businesses that there is a need in the community for a new entertainment venue.
