Mixed results for ENMU baseball

DALLAS — If Eastern New Mexico were to play all of its games against Dallas Christian this season, it would likely have a very good record once the season ended.

If the Greyhounds were to face Southwest Christian the rest of the season, it might have just as bad of a record once the season concluded.

The Greyhounds got their season off and running over the weekend, grabbing two wins over host Dallas Christian (7-4 Friday, 10-0 Saturday) and losing twice against Southwest Christian (10-3 Friday, 6-0 Saturday).

Eastern (2-2) has four more games this weekend in Austin against Huston Tillotson with a noon MST doubleheader Friday and single games 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.

Friday vs. Dallas Christian (7-4 W) — Chris Padilla had an RBI single, RBI double and RBI groundout to lead a 15-hit attack for the Greyhounds.

First baseman Malcolm Boehm was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while catcher Eurick Perez and centerfielder Malcolm Smith each went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Fernando Burgos picked up the win by allowing three runs on three hits in six innings, with four walks issued and seven strikeouts.

Friday vs. Southwest Christian (10-3 L) — Centerfielder Luke Jones went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in the fourth and a bases-loaded walk during a three-run ninth.

Padilla went 2-for-5 on the game, while designated hitter Joseph Zubia was 2-for-3 with a walk and run scored.

Juan Carlos Gonzales picked up the complete game win, scattering nine runs and five walks to allow three earned runs on the day. He struck out eight. Greyhound starter Joel Torres took the loss, allowing four runs — two earned — on six hits and three walks.

Saturday vs. Dallas Christian (10-0 W) — Catcher Eurick Perez doubled to plate a pair during a five-run second, while Miles Hilton went 1-for-3 with a two-run double in the fifth.

Boehm was the only Greyhound with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.

Enrique Perez was tough on the hill, striking out 10 in six innings of work while alloewd just three hits and five walks.

Saturday vs. Southwest Christian (6-0 L) — In a game called after five innings, Victor Del Carman pitched a perfect five innings and struck out 10 Greyhound batters.

The Eagles scored five in the fourth, with Clay Atwood drawing a bases-loaded walk and scoring on a wild pitch.

Southwest Christian managed just four hits on Greyhound starter Braden Delamare and reliever Elijah Cappello, but took advantage of five Delamare walks.
