RICHARDSON, Texas — Eastern New Mexico’s women swept the competition on the court last week, and swept the awards on it this week.
Senior Treyanna Clay was selected as the Lone Star Conference’s offensive player of the week, and sophomore Alivia Lewis was named defensive player of the week following the Greyhounds’ wins over Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Commerce, according to a Monday release from the league office.
It is the second award of the year for Lewis, and first for Clay.
Clay, a transfer from Division-I Iona, averaged 18.5 points per game in the Greyhounds’ victories — 73-67 Thursday over the TexAnns and 90-79 over the Lions. Against Tarleton State, Clay scored all 15 of her points in the second half, including six in ENMU’s 10-2 run over the final three minutes. Two days later against Texas A&M-Commerce, Clay had 22 points for her highest-scoring LSC game and second-highest point total overall. She went 6-of-10 from the floor, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, and also had a team-high three steals.
Lewis, a sophomore from Hope Christian in Albuquerque, averaged 11.5 points and 11.5 rebounds on the week. Against the TexAnns, Lewis just missed a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds, while also adding three blocks and a season-high four assists. Against Texas A&M-Commerce, she tied her career high with 14 points and had 11 rebounds along with a pair of blocked shots.
Lewis, who won the defensive player of the week Nov. 13, is one of just three players in the conference to win multiple weekly awards. Kaylee Allen of Tarleton State and Tyesha Taylor of West Texas A&M have both won a pair of offensive awards and one defensive award, with Allen sweeping the awards Nov. 26.
The wins moved ENMU to 7-1 in conference play, where they sat tied with Angelo State for first place, and 12-4 overall.
The Greyhounds faced West Texas A&M Tuesday, and are home for Texas Woman’s 11 a.m. Thursday.
