Women

Thursday

Tarleton State (10-4, 3-3 LSC) at Eastern New Mexico (10-4, 5-1 LSC)

5:30 p.m., Greyhound Arena

Last time out: Tarleton State had a fairly easy time of it last Thursday when hosting Texas Woman’s at Wisdom Gym in Stephensville, Texas, jumping out to a 26-7 lead after the first quarter and coasting all the way to a 79-41 victory.

Also Saturday, the Greyhounds won for the third time in their last four tries when they beat Texas A&M-Kingsville 76-53 on the road. Eastern never trailed in the game and went on to earn its largest margin of victory in conference play this season.

The Hounds used balanced scoring, with Treyanna Clay notching 18 points, Alivia Lewis 11, and Tilasha Okey and Jena Mehlbrech 10 each.

Last meeting: March 2, 2018 at Frisco, Texas. Having swept Tarleton during the regular season seemed to bode well for the Greyhounds as they faced the TexAnns in first round of Lone Star Conference Tournament play.

But the third time wasn’t a charm for the Hounds, who fell behind 24-17 after one quarter and never caught up, losing 83-61 to end their season.

The lowdown: The first of a tough two games this week for the Greyhounds, who would like to put more distance between themselves and the TexAnns in the LSC standings.

It’s good then that the Hounds will play this one at home. Their record at Greyhound Arena this season is 5-0, but it’s just 3-4 in non-neutral road games. Tarleton State is 3-3 on the road, 7-1 at home.

Saturday

Texas A&M-Commerce at Eastern New Mexico

2 p.m., Greyhound Arena

Last meeting: Feb. 3, 2018 at Greyhound Arena. Daeshi McCants had a big night — 24 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals — as the Greyhounds won their fourth in a row by rallying to edge Commerce 64-60. They had trailed 45-43 heading into the final quarter.

The lowdown: Perhaps the Greyhounds’ biggest game so far this season.

The Lions, like the Hounds, headed into their Thursday-night game at 5-1 in the Lone Star Conference. By the time this one tips off, each team will either be 6-1, or one will be 6-1 and the other 5-2, or both 5-2. Doesn’t matter. In any of those three scenarios, the game will be crucial for both teams.

Men

Thursday

Tarleton State (13-3, 3-2 LSC) at Eastern New Mexico (6-8, 3-3 LSC)

7:30 p.m., Greyhound Arena

Last time out: Tarleton State came into Saturday’s home game against Dallas Christian looking to rebound from a double-digit loss to Texas A&M-Commerce that had ended a six-game win streak. And rebound the Texans did, scoring double the Dallas Christian total to win 90-45 at Wisdom Gym in Stephensville, Texas.

The Greyhounds visited Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday and endured their third straight loss, falling to the Javelinas 68-59 despite double-digit scoring efforts from Zach Parker (16), Devin Pullum (13) and Darius Sawyer (12).

Last meeting: Feb. 1, 2018 at Greyhound Arena. The Hounds desperately needed a win, coming into the game having lost two straight and four of their last five. And they pulled this one out, edging Tarleton State 61-57.

The lowdown: The Texans are one of the LSC’s top teams and toppling them would be a great way for ENMU to turn its season back around while gaining some confidence going forward.

Tarleton has three players who do the bulk of its scoring — Josh Hawley (18.0 ppg), Corinthian Ramsey (13.5) and Randall Broddie (11.1), so the Greyhounds will have to contend with them on defense.

Offensively, the Hounds will have to be wary of Texan defenders Clashon Gaffney (23 blocks), Jesse Hill (15) and Hawley (14).

Saturday

Texas A&M-Commerce at Eastern New Mexico

4 p.m., Greyhound Arena

Last meeting: Feb. 3, 2018 at Greyhound Arena. Eastern won its second in a row, prevailing against Commerce 85-81 in overtime. The momentum proved to be short-lived, though, as the Hounds followed their modest win streak with a four-game losing skid.

The lowdown: Another tough one for the Greyhounds and another reason why it would serve them well to come into the game off a win over Tarleton.

A&M-Commerce heads into Thursday’s game at West Texas A&M with a 13-2 overall record, 5-0 in the LSC, so it’s another chance for Eastern to bring down a quality opponent.

Yet no one has been able to bring down this opponent since November.
