Broadview fire department upgraded

The Broadview Fire Department has been notified of an upgrade in its rating from the Insurance Service Office from Class 9 to Class 8B.

The upgrade could qualify landowners within the Broadview Fire Protection District for lower insurance premiums. It also increases the department’s State Fire Fund allotment by at least $7,800 annually, with the money available for anything from utility payments to training to vehicle purchases.

County Fire and Safety Director David Kube said he’s been working with the department since he arrived in his position in June 2016. The upgrade, he said, was largely centered on improved record keeping on employee training, pump tests and hose tests.

Kube is hoping to secure more upgrades in the coming years with water supply improvements.

Michael Booth is the Broadview fire chief.
