Deputies responded to the single-vehicle crash around 5 a.m. on State Road 209 at milepost 17, where a southbound 2004 Lincoln SUV left the roadway and overturned, the release said.

Hortencia Rodriguez Martinez, 59, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, while another passenger, Abigail Salcedo, 23, was eventually flown to a Texas hospital with critical injuries.

Driver Richardo Cruz, 27, and other passengers, Monica Salcedo, 21, Priscilla Cruz, 31, and two children were treated and released locally.

The group was traveling from Phoenix to Hobbs, said the release, which noted the investigation is continuing into the cause of the crash.
