Vander Dussen new judge; Zamora unofficial state rep winner

Republican Janemarie Vander Dussen is Curry County's new magistrate court judge. And eastern New Mexico may have a new state representative in Republican Martin Zamora.

Vander Dussen received almost 53 percent of the vote to defeat Democrat Nicole Roybal in the judge's race, according to unofficial totals released by county officials late Tuesday.

The unofficial vote total was 1,899-1,702.

In the state rep contest, unofficial results Tuesday showed Zamora defeated incumbent Democrat George Dodge by 30 votes — 2,973-2,943.

The New Mexico Secretary of State website reported the race was so close it could result in an automatic recount. County commissioners are scheduled to meet later this week to make results official or begin the process of resolving disputes.

Republican Jackey Chatfield defeated Democrat Mark McDonald in the District 67 state representative race, 5,817 votes to 3,542.

Curry County Assessor Candace Morrison had 7,905 votes. Lunden Hromas ran against her as a write-in candidate. County results show 311 write-in votes were cast.

Complete election coverage will follow in Sunday's Eastern New Mexico News.
