CLOVIS — Cash, cards and Dr Pepper — it was a productive night for four young would-be car marauders in southeast Clovis until police caught up with them.
Following word late Thursday night of multiple vehicle break-ins near Sixth and Weatherford streets, police located 18-year old Gabriel Antonio-Castro of Clovis driving with three juveniles (ages 16 and 17) in a black 2006 Honda Accord.
Inside, police found three two-liter bottles of Dr Pepper, a “large wad of cash,” and three debit cards that corresponded to items reported missing that night from nearby vehicles, including $1,500 in rent money.
All four individuals were detained, and Antonio-Castro ultimately “admitted that he entered at least four different vehicles” and “that all four of the subjects were involved in these burglaries.”
Antonio-Castro was arrested early Friday and charged with three counts each of vehicle burglary and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, fourth-degree felonies.
He was also charged with two counts of larceny, and was released from jail on personal recognizance pending a court date next week.
He has been conditionally appointed a public defender.
