Clovis girls notch first district win

Freshman Coronado makes the difference

HOBBS — The more than two hour journey to Hobbs past flatland and sagebrush was well worth making for the Clovis girls soccer team on Saturday, as it resulted in the Lady Wildcats' first district win of the season.

Thanks to freshman striker Nevaeh Coronado's goal, the Lady 'Cats prevailed 1-0, improving to 1-0-1 in District 4-5A play.

Clovis had opened its district slate on Tuesday, with a scoreless tie at Carlsbad.

Saturday, Danielle Griego and Madison Lynch assisted on Coronado's goal.

The Lady Wildcats (11-2-1 overall) will host Roswell Tuesday at 6 p.m.
