Prep soccer: Portales girls top West Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, N.M. — Adeli Hernandez had a had trick in the second half, including two goals inside of a minute, as Portales had little trouble dispatching host West Las Vegas 9-1 Monday afternoon.

Rebecca Christensen added a second-half goal and two first-half assists for Portales (5-5), which never looked back after Zoe Roy’s 11th-minute tally.

Jade Gallegos had a goal and an assist for the Rams, who also got goals from Jes Smith, Mikaela Garzia and Kassidy Galassini.

“Overall, it was a great win,” Portales coach Ruben Tellez said. “First half, we were trying too hard; our touches were a bit too fast, which made the balls hard to get to. We were overplaying and trying to stay focused after the long trip. Second half, we played much better and worked on cleaning up our passing.

“We played better today and can carry over and build from today in preparation for East Mountain.”
