Eastern's Urrea earns LSC weekly honor

Named Defensive Player of the Week on Monday

The Lone Star Conference recently announced sophomore Dante Urrea as its Defensive Player of The Week for the fourth week of regular season play.

The Deming, N.M. native had a season-high 12 tackles in the Hounds 31-14 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday evening and spearheaded a defense that allowed just 229 total yards for the game. Urrea also recorded one tackle for loss and a pass break up for the contest, guiding a defensive secondary that allowed just 158 passing yards to the opposition.

Urrea and the Hounds defense limited the Javelinas to just five first downs in the second half and forced three turnovers throughout the game. This is the second week in a row that the defensive unit for the Hounds have given up less than 300 total yards in a game after limiting Texas A&M-Commerce to just 289 yards in week three.

Urrea and the defensive unit for the Hounds will need to continue their outstanding play moving forward into this week as Eastern New Mexico welcomes a Midwestern State offense that ranks second in the nation with an average of 574.0 yards per game to Greyhound Stadium on Saturday night.
