CLOVIS — Clovis’ girls soccer team stayed undefeated, taking a shutout into the closing minutes before going on to a 7-1 win over Artesia at Yucca Middle School.
Danielle Griego, Nevaeh Coronado and Madison Lynch also scored twice for Clovis, while Sofia Rico had three assists and Luisa Chavez added a goal to make it 7-0 this season for the Wildcats.
Coronado got Clovis on the board in the seventh minute, and Lynch scored a pair of goals to send the Wildcats into the locker room up 3-0.
Zailor Lopez scored on a direct kick from 20 yards out to spoil the shutout for Ayden Dosher, who was called up from the junior varsity to start with both of Clovis’ regular goalkeepers sidelined.
Dosher made three saves, including one on a penalty kick.
“We had some girls out with injuries tonight,” Clovis coach Traci Sievers said. “Some of the girls who usually play JV stepped into some roles tonight. It was good for those girls to get varsity experience.”
“We were fortunate we were able to build a lot of depth last year. Hopefully, that will carry through. You never know with injuries.”
Clovis is back in action Thursday at home against Lovington.
