Portales school board approves all items

PORTALES — The Portales Municipal School board had a “regular, easy board meeting” of about an hour Monday night, according to Superintendent Johnnie Cain.

“Everything was approved and adopted,” he said of the agenda that included donations of money ($1,000 from Portales Lions Noonday for audio books) and school supplies (from the Adult Probation & Parole Office).

The board also heard first readings on policy revisions concerning report cards, parent conferences and staff training, and it adopted another Board of Education policy revisions concerning “staff conduct with students (maintaining professional boundaries),” as listed on the agenda.

“It wasn’t something that was done because we had a problem,” Cain said. “It was just to update that to meet more of the mood of the nation right now, just really outlining what is expected.”

Cain said the full text of that policy update will be put online soon.

Board president Inez Rodriguez and member Rod Savage were not present at Monday’s meeting, Cain said. The next board meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Oct. 9 at the L.C. Cozzens Administrative Offices in Portales.
