ROSWELL — Behind three goals each from Josiah Tellez, Lionel Chavez and Marcos Chavez, the Portales Rams went .500 on the final day of the Roswell Invitational and collected their first win of the boys soccer season.

Lionel and Marcos Chavez each scored three goals in the win over the Colts, while Tellez had the lone Ram goal against NMMI and two against Silver City.

“We were really looking for that first win of the season,” Portales coach Juan Mendez said. “It was rough, even though we were winning. We were up 3-0, but it felt like the guys weren’t playing hard. During the second half, they really picked it up.”

Portales is in action against Clovis on Tuesday. The Wildcats are off to an 8-0 start and have outscored their opponents 29-4 so far.
