CLOVIS — A pair of Clovis city commissioners received the designation of certified municipal official, according to a release from the city manager’s office.

Helen Casaus and Ladona Clayton received the designation during the New Mexico Municipal League annual conference Thursday in Roswell.

The Municipal Officials Leadership Institute was founded in 2003 to give New Mexico municipal officials knowledge and skills necessary for effective and ethical leadership. The program requires completion of an education program, a governance program and a leadership program.

Casaus was appointed to the District 3 position in 2016 following the retirement of Bobby Sandoval, and won election for the final half of the four-year term in March.

Clayton is serving her first term representing District 1.
