Our People: Camping, fishing make for perfect day

Barbara Riggan

Age: 49

Where were you born? Phoenix, Arizona

What town do you live in now? Clovis

I've been married to my best friend, Mike, for almost 24 years. I'm a mom to my son Michael (and his wife Esperanza), and to my daughter Summer (and her husband Prince). The best part is being a Nana to three beautiful granddaughters, (McKenzlie 3, Mariah 2, and Adrianna Grace 2 months). I have worked for the city of Clovis, Senior Services Department, for eight years and have been director for 10 months.

What would you do if you won $1 million?

Build a home in the mountains overlooking a lake.

What's your idea of a perfect day?

A day camping, fishing and spending time with family.

If you could have a super power, what would it be and why?

To be able to fly as fast as a plane. I want to be able to go see my kids and grandkids anytime and still make it back to work on time.

What do you collect?

I'm not a collector of stuff, but I do love birdhouses, and I have several in my back yard.

How would you like to be remembered?

Just to know I've made a difference in someone's life. You never know what path other people are walking, so always try to be kind and make people feel loved.

Who is invited to your fantasy dinner party? And why?

Reba McEntire, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, Tanya Tucker and Crystal Gayle. Those are all the singers my mom listened to when I was growing up. I can remember turning up the music as loud as we could and sing and dance.

Favorite quote?

It's better to not need it and have it, than to need it and not have it. That's what I always tell my husband when I'm packing to travel.

What's an accomplishment you're proud of?

Graduating college. I was a full-time wife and mom, with a full-time job and I graduated with my associate's degree at age 42, although I could not have done it without my husband's support.

What would you like for your last meal?

Enchiladas, chili relenos, tacos, beans and rice and a big slice of chocolate cake.

What do you hope your life will be like in 10 years?

I will be 59, so I will probably be working, dreaming about retirement.

Tell us about your favorite hobby.

It would be hard to pick just one, but I love to go fishing. Even more so, I love to out-fish my hubby.
