Man sought in arson investigation arrested

July 26, 2018

CLOVIS — Ricky Morse, sought since Tuesday in connection with a church arson investigation, was arrested Wednesday afternoon, according to jail records.

Morse, 22, was charged with fourth-degree felony negligent arson after police say they saw him on video lighting a fire, eating canned goods and attempting to steal from the donation box in Clovis’ Sacred Heart Church. Police said in a press release the incident was part of an ongoing investigation that “may be related” to a fire later that morning in an empty building across from the church.

Officials did not release updates Wednesday on the investigation, but the jail records accessed by phone and web showed Morse was booked into the facility around 1:15 p.m. Wednesday and held without bond on the arson charge.
