Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

She's reading 'The Girl in the Castle'

Let's see.... well, I'm a Clovis girl, leaving but returning to Clovis for good in the fall of 1996. I am a graduate of Texas Christian University holding a Bachelor's Degree in English and Journalism. I graduated from the University of Denver with a Master's Degree in Librarianship and Information Science in 1983. I have worked in academic libraries both in Lake Charles, Louisiana and Prescott, Arizona, was the media specialist in two elementary school libraries here in Clovis and have been the Library Director of the Clovis-Carver Public Library since November 2010. I am passionate about all things library and am focused on providing the BEST library services for our patrons in and around Clovis. My goal is to keep the library moving forward with our collection and with the ever-changing technology and, at the same time, provide those tradition library services that our patrons require.

I have two grown sons, Sean and Conor, both of whom live away from Clovis. I am blessed to be the grandmother to Lola Anne who will be 1 year old in mid-August.

I love to read and always have way too many books checked out. I am primarily a reader of fiction but always try to have at least one nonfiction book checked out. Since I do the majority of collection development for the library, I get to see the books right after they are processed. There are always too many books to read... and never enough time.

What would you do if you won $1 million?

I believe that I would travel and visit all of the great lodges of the United States and see all the national parks. Also on my list of things to do as a millionaire would be to take a Lewis and Clark River Cruise along the Snake River; a steamboat trip along the Mississippi. I would also visit each and every historical marker in New Mexico - really seeing the whole state and documenting my travels... If there was any money left, I'd probably buy books - for me, for my boys, for my granddaughter, for my family. You can never have enough books!

What is your most prized possession?

I own a complete first edition of the Anne of Green Gables books by Lucy Maud Montgomery. The first one, Anne of Green Gables, is my most favorite book of all time.

What are you reading?

Here's the short list of things on my nightstand right now... The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah, The Girl in the Castle by Santa Montefiore, The Perfect Couple by Elin Hildrebrand, Roadside New Mexico by David Pike, Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann and National Geographic - The Old West by Stephen G. Hyslop.

How would you like to be remembered?

I hope that I have made a different in the lives of the patrons of the Clovis-Carver Public Library. I hope that I have been instrumental in making sure the library remains a vital, active, a positive place for my hometown. I love what I do. As you all know, it has been a tough year for our library, my staff, our patrons, our town. I hope and pray that I continue to serve as a productive library director and that I continue to move our library forward with services, programs, and collections benefiting our patrons, keeping the library an essential part of this town.

What is your idea of a perfect day?

The days are all so short and can be over in a blink of an eye. My idea of a perfect day would be one that would include time with friends, family and loved ones, would include a bit of time for reading, a time for reflecting. maybe working in my yard which is either a blessing or a curse in my life, and simply enjoying life.

Tell us about your favorite hobby.

I love to craft - repurpose, recycle and upcycle every day stuff. I always have a project I'm working on. It's fun going to garage sales and finding someone's stuff and repurposing it to meet my needs.

What do you hope your life will be like in 10 years?

Fulfilled. Rested. Full.

What is my favorite movie?

I have many "favorite" movies. There are two that I could watch several times a year. They are "Witness" with Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis and "Jeremiah Johnson" with Robert Redford.

Favorite quote.

"Do one thing every day that scares you." - Eleanor Roosevelt
