Family, friends of shooting victim raising funds for funeral

PORTALES — Less than two days into the investigation of his death, family and friends of Dylan Nutter were busy raising funeral funds for the 20-year old Portales resident.

“Horrible,” said his mother, Vicki Nutter, in a phone interview with The News. “He’s my only child, and so that was the rest of my family besides his son. ... We’re just praying for resolution to find out who killed him.”

Officials on Friday said no charges or arrests had been made in connection with the ongoing investigation that started around 3:30 a.m. Thursday when Portales police were called to Nutter’s residence in regard to a “possible shooting.”

“The police have been extremely tight-lipped, so they’re not really saying anything, and so we don’t know much,” said Nutter’s mother, who moved to Portales with him from Big Spring, Texas, about nine years ago. “We can’t even verify that it was a gunshot or anything. ... I believe we will find out more of what happened after the autopsy results are released.”

Angelina Christine Bice told The News she and a friend were organizing car wash fundraisers today and Sunday in Portales, proceeds of which will go toward funeral expenses and family relief for the father of their young child, Eric Gene Bice-Nutter.

Online fundraisers were also in progress, with one already exceeding its $3,000 goal.

Vicki Nutter said her son was artistic, outgoing and “an extremely good father to his 2-year old son.”

“He enjoyed sports, and unfortunately we looked forward to skiing this winter, but now that won’t happen,” she said. “We have got to find justice for our child.”
