Reporter's notebook: A piece of Highland

Keepsakes from the original Highland Elementary School are available to the public following the demolition of the building last week to make way for a new school.

Deputy Superintendent of Operations Carrie Bunce said the majority of the flag holders from Highland that were available have already been claimed, but several bricks from the school constructed in 1951 can still be picked up.

"We're just trying to let people have a piece of memorabilia from the building," Bunce said.

Bunce said close to 100 bricks have already been given away by the school district and the contractor also set aside bricks at the demolition site because people were asking for items from the school.

The bricks can be picked up at the Clovis Municipal Schools Administration Office, 1009 Main. The antiques are first come, first serve and limited to one per person.
