1968: Officials estimated 3,000 people attended events in Muleshoe, commemorating the 50th anniversary of Bailey County.

Festivities began at 7 a.m. at the high school football field.

"(P)articipants were invited to ride their horses, mules or cars right up the field to the serving tables," the Clovis News-Journal reported.

G. P. Krenendah, one of the county's founding fathers, spoke about the county's first school; he said it had three school board members, one teacher and two students.

He also talked about animosity between early day residents from different communities as they competed for the county seat and range rights.

Mrs. Krenendah was recognized as the first bride of Bailey County.

The day's activities also included a parade, barbecue, beard-judging contest and fireworks display.
