Business feature: Clovis' Pet Logic closing doors

CLOVIS — After nearly a decade of providing Clovis with all types of animals, Pet Logic will be turning off its fish tanks, cleaning out its cages and closing its doors later this summer.

With a total of six children, 17 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren spread out all around the country in Georgia, Mississippi, Montana, New Mexico, Tennessee and Texas, owner Cindy Arnold said it was simply time for her and husband Herschel to step away from the full-time grind of running a pet store to spend more time with family.

"We have been in business here for nine years; we just want to be able to spend time with our grand-kids," Cindy Arnold said. "We're just going to retire and go have fun and you can't do that when you own a pet store, it's seven days a week," noting that even on days when the store is closed to customers, she still needs to come in and take care of the animals.

For nine years Pet Logic and Arnold have been a source for birds, fish, reptiles, gerbils, pet supplies and perhaps most importantly, advice for how to take care of Clovis' feathered friends and other animals.

"Their knowledge was really good, you could call and ask them questions any time," said customer Penny Graves, who has added five birds and a reptile to her home courtesy of Pet Logic.

Arnold said that last part won't change with her retirement as she will still be accessible to her former customers by phone and social media.

"I'm still going to be around for people, I'm not going to leave everyone in the lurch," Arnold said.

Arnold said she is planning on closing the store by the end of July, but that will depend on how long it takes to sell the remainder of the store's inventory.

Being born and raised in Clovis, Arnold said she has met a lot of friends over the years.

"I'm going to miss my customers most and the animals second," Arnold said.

Graves said she will miss the sense of community gained by shopping at Pet Logic and talking with its owners.

"I've gotten to know Cindy and Herschel and they're just very good people and very caring, especially to young people," Graves said. "They would have young people that would come and help out and volunteer and (Cindy) did it for them to have a place to go."
