Pawn shop making ready for retirement

CLOVIS — Beaulieu Brothers Pawn City is taking the first step towards closing its doors, but owners expect they’ll be open for at least the next few years.

Alan Beaulieu said starting Sunday the store will no longer accept pawn items and will focus on selling the remainder of its inventory in preparation for retirement.

“We’re just taking the a step towards closing because you can’t ever retire if you keep taking stuff in,” Beaulieu said. “When you’ve done something for 40 years, it’s time to do something else.”

Beaulieu said the pawn shop’s closing date will depend on when its inventory is sold, which could be as much as two to five years down the road.

Beaulieu said the thing he will miss most from the store’s 42 years in business is the customers.

“I’m going to miss about 99 percent of the people, tens of thousands of them,” Beaulieu said.

A sign on the store’s front entrance advises customers to call 575-763-4617 or 575-763-4644 to make arrangements to reclaim current pawns.
