1968: New Clovis Police Chief Ken Kingsbury was shaking things up, upsetting longtime officers along the way.

Kingsbury, appointed to the job 28 days earlier, said "...(S)ome men here think this is a social club," the Clovis News-Journal reported.

"I'm going to shake it up and see where it falls. The people of Clovis deserve a good department."

The major change was in the detective division - all detectives "were ousted from their positions," the newspaper reported.

Some of the demoted officers demanded public explanations for Kingsbury's decisions, but he said those reasons would only be provided privately with individual officers.

Kingsbury remained Clovis' chief for the next five years.
