Judge: Escapees, officer not eligible for bond

CLOVIS — The three men charged with escaping from the Clovis jail on Friday — and the jail officer accused of helping them - appeared via video in Curry County Magistrate Court on Wednesday.

Judge Duane Castleberry said the state filed pre-trial detention motions for all four individuals, so they were not eligible for a bond.

The escapees — Victor Apodaca, Ricky Sena and Aaron Clark — were captured Tuesday after a three-hour standoff with police.

Detention Officer Sarina Dodson was arrested Saturday.

All four will appear in court again on June 28 for preliminary hearings.

Officials on Wednesday still were investigating the inmates' movements after their escape from an outdoor recreation area at the jail.

Curry County Sheriff Wesley Waller did not respond to questions about how long the inmates may have been inside the apartment at 1210 Dartmouth St. where they were captured.

District Attorney Andrea Reeb said she had not been briefed on those details and wasn't sure investigators had been able to gather that information.

Reeb also said no charges had been filed in connection with an inmate allegedly pointing a firearm at police on Tuesday. Officials said Clovis police fired shots in response to the threat, but no injuries were reported. The inmates surrendered without incident about an hour after the shots were fired.

All three inmates on Wednesday were formally charged with escape, in addition to charges that had them incarcerated originally.

Apodaca and Sena also face an additional charge of failure to appear on a felony charge as they did not attend their scheduled court appearances on Tuesday while they were still at large.

Dodson, who was returned to the Curry County Detention Center from Lubbock on Tuesday after waiving extradition, requested to be moved out of that facility due to safety concerns because she previously worked there.

Castleberry said he believes she can be moved to the jail in De Baca County, but made no decision.

Castleberry signed a conditional order of appointment to the law office of public defender for the three escapees and Dodson.

Jon Hausmann, 38, of Clovis, has been charged with three counts of harboring or aiding a felon. He did not appear in magistrate court on Wednesday with the others connected to the escape. He remained in the Clovis jail on Wednesday night.

Cji Adkins and Laura Duden, both arrested on Monday for resisting, evading or obstructing an officer during the execution of a search warrant in the 1100 block of Rio Street — which law enforcement officials said may have been related to the escape — were also in court on Wednesday.

Adkins and Duden received bonds and both are due back in court on July 10 for a pre-trial hearing.
