Second time the Angelo State runner gets nod
RICHARDSON, Texas — Angelo State’s Kami Norton became the third two-time women’s winner of the Fred Jacoby Academic Athlete of the Year, announced this week by the Lone Star Conference.
Norton, who won national titles in the heptathlon and pentathlon and helped ASU finish third in the national outdoor track and field championships (seventh in indoor), also took the award as a junior in 2017.
Norton and men’s winner Dillon Vaughan of West Texas A&M both carried 4.0 grade point averages in addition to their many successes in competition.
The LSC’s sports information directors voted from a pool that included the academic player of the year in every sport the conference offers.
Eastern New Mexico’s Keenan Dodd finished third in voting for the men’s award, behind Vaughan and Cameron’s Dario Gabriel.
