Reporter's notebook: Totals topped

The final tallies are in from Saturday’s Great American Cleanup in Clovis and volunteers topped last year’s trash totals by over 25 tons.

Public Works Director Clint Bunch said Saturday’s cleanup yielded 154 tons of trash, up from last year’s total of 128 tons according to Parks and Recreation Director Mark Dayhoff’s presentation to the city commission in 2017.

Bunch said including the Great American Cleanup, free dumping for county residents at the landfill and the city’s sanitation trucks, 831 tons of trash was collected in Clovis from Friday to Monday.

While dumping at the landfill is only free for county residents during Clovis’ two annual cleanup efforts, Bunch wanted to remind the public that dumping at the landfill is always free for city residents.
