CLOVIS — A Clovis man faces up to 45 years in jail following a conviction Friday afternoon on kidnapping and aggravated battery.
Daniel Romero, 30, was found guilty of kidnapping, two counts of aggravated battery on a household member, interference with communications, battery, resisting arrest and intimidation of a witness.
According to a release from District Attorney Andrea Reeb’s office:
• Clovis police responded to a July 2016 call that a female was beaten and strangled by Romero, her estranged boyfriend. She alleged Romero battered her for an hour and choked her into unconsciousness several times using his hands and a computer cord.
• The Curry County jury deliberated for about 45 minutes before returning guilty verdicts on all counts.
• Judge Fred Van Soelen presided over the one-day trial, and ordered a diagnostic evaluation for Romero at the Department of Corrections before sentencing.
An attempt to contact Romero’s attorneys was unsuccessful Friday evening.
