1978: Officials from the Eastern New Mexico University-Clovis campus and members of the Clovis school board met to canvas the results of the bond election held the day before in which area voters overwhelmingly supported a $2.4 million bond for a new facility to house the ENMU-C campus.

The official tally was 1,973 in favor and 391 opposed for the funds needed for the new facility designed by local architect Randall Kilmer and destined to house several vocational programs including electro mechanics, refrigeration, and licensed practical nursing.

Clovis campus vocational director O.B. Coffey said completion of the campus facility, located between Mabry and Seventh Streets, was expected to take two years.

1968: Glen Franklin of House was off to the best start of his calf-roping career with more than $12,000 in winnings so far in 1968.

Franklin was 12 when he entered his first rodeo in Tucumcari, where he won his first saddle and a pair of boots for topping both the calf roping and the all-around.

He joined the Rodeo Cowboys Association at the age of 19, placing third in calf roping that year. Since then he placed second four times and had two first-place titles to his name.

Franklin was the subject of a chapter in a new book called "13 Flat," by Willard H. Porter, and published by A.S. Barnes and Company.
