Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Portales elementary students showed that their creativity is not restricted to just the English language as first-, third- and fifth-grade students recited original works in a Spanish poetry concert at Lindsey-Steiner Elementary on Thursday.
First grader Janis Ollervidez won first place for her poem “Se Mató un Tomate (A Tomato Died),” third-grader Fatima Arceo won first-place for her poem “El Zoo de la Gente (The Zoo and its People)” and fifth grader Angie Vasquez won first-place for her poem “Mamá soy Paquito (Mom, I am Paquito).”
The top three finishers from each grade will represent Portales at the Poesía en el Llano Estacado competition in Clovis May 7.
