Our People: Prince(ss) of Portales

Kelsey Prince was born and raised in Portales. She has worked many jobs from ministry to medicine but said her favorite is working with children because she loves the excitement they have for life.

She said she enjoys being involved in the community by doing volunteer work. She is the current Miss Portales.

She is studying at Eastern New Mexico University.

When she's not going to school or working she enjoys playing golf and spending time outdoors.

Prince is a dance instructor for Portales schools and for a dance studio. She plans to complete her undergraduate degree in May.

When you were a kid, what did you think you'd be doing as an adult?

I wanted to be an astronomical architect that drove NASCAR and taught dance.

How would you describe yourself in one word?

Passionate, because I put my heart into everything I do.

What is your theme song?

What's your favorite smell?

Fresh rain.

If you could master one musical instrument, what would it be?

Piano.

What fantasy/mythological creature would you have as a pet?

A griffin, because it's unique and powerful. My mother's maiden name is Griffin.

What's so great about your favorite sport?

Dancing is an expression of artistry as well as very athletic. It is good for you mentally and physically.

What do you do when you're not working?

I spend time with family and friends.

What is your favorite quote?

"Be humble for you are made of earth, be noble for you are made of stars." It's a Serbian proverb.

Tell us about your favorite place to travel?

My favorite place to travel is the beach. I love the sounds of the ocean and the way sand feels on your feet.

What would you do if you had only one more year left to live?

Get rid of all of my things and go on an adventure.
