Clovis student in custody after alleged threats

CLOVIS — Police were called to Marshall Middle School on Wednesday morning in response to a student making verbal threats against the school, Clovis Municipal Schools Superintendent Jody Balch said.

Balch said the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. or 8:45 a.m. and the student did not have a weapon.

Balch said police took the student into custody and the student’s parents were notified.

Police did not immediately respond to questions about the incident.

District Attorney Andrea Reeb said charges against the juvenile are expected to be filed today.

The incident comes less than a week after a Clovis jury found a Marshall student committed aggravated assault upon a school employee after bringing an Airsoft pistol to school and making threats to the principal on Feb. 8.

Balch said he did not know off the top of his head how many students have been arrested this year for threatening violence at school.
