Rams win easily at NMMI

February 14, 2018

ROSWELL — It wasn't always pretty, but the Portales boys ultimately took care of business in a 57-32 win at NMMI on Tuesday night.

The Rams (14-10, 4-3) exploded for 38 second-half points to pull away from the Colts.

"I just don't think we executed very well," Rams coach Rickie McBroom said. "We had the same shots in the first half that we did in the second half. The difference was that we made those shots in the second half, but didn't do that in the first half."

Portales led just 6-4 after the first quarter, and 19-14 at half. However, the Rams scored 15 and 23 points in the second half, respectively. Meanwhile, NMMI (4-17, 0-8) was limited to just 18 points in the entire second half.

Braden Bridges led the Rams with 15 points, while Ethan Self added 12 of his own. Both players had four 3-pointers apiece, and Portales as a whole had 12. The Rams will finish their regular season at home this Saturday at 5 p.m. against Hope Christian, who defeated Portales, 76-41, on Jan. 30.

"I think we're gonna have to play good defense," McBroom explained. "We're gonna get open looks and we have to make those shots. Defensively, we're gonna look at film and decide what defenses will be best."
