Santa Fe races past Clovis boys behind 3-point barrage

Demons hit 12 treys in 72-50 win

SANTA FE — Twelve was Santa Fe's lucky number on Saturday night, as the Demons knocked down 12 3s to defeat Clovis, 72-50, in a 6A-District 2 boys basketball showdown. Ten different Demons scored at least two points, as Santa Fe put up 41 points after halftime.

"Twelve to two on 3s," Wildcats coach Scott Robinson said of the game's difference-making stat. "Anytime someone hits 12 3s on you, it's gonna be a lot of pressure on you, offensively. Down by 12 at half, it was an uphill battle all night long."

Clovis (8-15, 0-8) trailed by just six after the first quarter, but too much 3-ball action made it difficult for the Wildcats to keep pace against the Demons (12-12, 4-4).

Victor Salcido had 22 points for the Demons, while Isaiah Andermann added 16 more. Both players had four treys apiece. As for Clovis, it scored just 19 first-half points, and made just a pair of 3s on the night. David Rosemond led the way with 11 points, and was the only Wildcat in double-figures.

Clovis will look to snap its seven-game losing streak at Sandia on Tuesday, before finishing the regular season at home on Saturday night against La Cueva. As for the current skid, which dates back to Jan. 16, it hasn't been any one thing for the Wildcats, but rather, new and creative ways to lose games.

"We've struggled shooting the ball, but it's been different things for different games," Robinson explained. "Other games it came down to making a play or two. It's different things on different nights."
