PORTALES — Public school officials in Portales are interested in securing the next installment of a $7.5 million general obligation bond passed during the 2017 election.
The $2 million installment will be used to fund several projects across the district, including remodeling at the Portales Junior High School cafeteria and a conversion to LED lighting in each school, Superintendent Johnnie Cain said.
The PMS Board of Education, which will consider the bond for approval at its meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, will also determine whether the district will issue education technology bonds valued at $650,000.
“It’s for the technology needs in the district,” Cain said.
Also at Monday’s meeting:
n Recognition of PJHS students who spoke at a Capturing Kids’ Hearts training about their teen leadership, as well as PJHS and Portales High School all-district and all-state band students.

n An application to receive matching funding from the Public School Capital Outlay Council for the renovation of the original wing of the Brown Early Childhood Center.
