Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Our People: Living with purpose

Alicia Roberts has lived in Clovis all of her life. She graduated from Clovis High School in 2009, then attended Eastern New Mexico University and graduated with a master's degree in speech language pathology in 2014. Ever since, she has been working as a preschool speech language pathologist in the Portales Municipal School district.

Roberts doesn't look at what she does as just a job but considers it a dream, as well, because she's changed by each of her clients who come from many different backgrounds.

She has been married to Ben Roberts for five years. The couple have a 2-year-old son named Owen.

Roberts works with a group of educators at Brown Early Childhood Center in Portales. She also works as an early interventionist for MECA Therapies, which provides therapy to children in their home environments for ages birth to 3 years old.

What do you like about your job?

I feel confident knowing that my purpose on this Earth is to be a speech pathologist and I truly enjoy every aspect of this profession. My favorite professor, Dr. Suzanne Swift, always inspired me with the famous quote from Henry Ford, "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right."

How would you describe yourself in one word?

Blessed.

What was the last costume you wore?

I dressed up as a scuba diver during an activity for my kids at school. They thought it was hilarious and it was a great opportunity to learn some scuba related vocabulary.
