Man held without bond in sex abuse case

CLOVIS — A man arrested Tuesday remained Friday in the Curry County Jail without bond, accused of sexually abusing three young girls.

Rubel Encinias, 44, of Clovis, is charged with nine counts of second-degree criminal sexual contact with a minor, according to court records. The investigation began in November and included separate interviews with the three girls at a safe house, according to an affidavit for arrest warrant by New Mexico State Police Officer Samantha Sainz.

All three girls told Sainz that Encinias “would stick his hands down her pants,” among other complaints.

His defense attorney Dan Lindsey said Friday the reports were “false allegations” and that Encinias would go before a Curry County judge next week to determine conditions of release.

“Mr. Encinias is presumed innocent,” he said. “Sometimes people don’t understand that. ... We will be representing him to the full extent of the law,” Lindsey said.
