County to identify rain-damaged roads

CLOVIS — Curry County commissioners today are expected to identify a list of roads damaged by rain this year to send to the state in order to receive disaster relief funding.

Commissioners previously approved a resolution to seek disaster relief.

About 35 roads were damaged by rainfall in 2017, officials have said.

If the list of roads is approved, Curry County Manager Lance Pyle said the next step will be for the state to conduct an assessment of the damage. Then the county will need to match 25 percent of whatever funds are received from the state.

Also on the agenda for today's meeting:

• Commissioners will vote on plans to build a deceleration lane on Curry Road 4 to provide access to the Milk Member Clovis Shuttle Yard. They had previously requested for the road department to review the plans for the deceleration lane. The plans the commission will vote on today call for a 265-foot deceleration lane along with flashing 35-mph signs to alert drivers to a change in speed limit.

• Commissioners will vote on a gas line extension agreement with New Mexico Gas Co. Inc. to relocate a gas line from Eighth Street to Ninth Street in order to accommodate the expansion of the Curry County Detention Center at a cost of $47,088.62.

• They will vote on the county's liability insurance deductibles for 2018. Pyle said he will recommend to keep the same deductibles as 2017, which were $25,000 for law enforcement, $5,000 for multi-line, and $2,500 for first-party automobile and property. Pyle said if these deductibles are maintained the county would pay a total of $963,551 for liability insurance in 2018.

• An executive session is scheduled, at the request of Commissioner Chet Spear. The agenda does not specify the reason for the executive session, but does allow for action following.
