Men take 18th, women 22nd at regionals
CANYON, Texas — Colorado schools — most notably Adams State — had little trouble taking the NCAA Division II South Central Region titles, held Saturday at West Texas A&M.
Eastern New Mexico University finished 18th in men’s competition, and the women came in 22nd.
Adams State (35 points) and Colorado Mines (38) crushed the men’s competition. The Grizzlies had three of the top four and four of the top nine finishers, including medalist Lucio Ramirez at 30:38.47. Colorado Mines took places 5-9 and 12-13.
Western State took third at 129 points.
Almog and Baylor Harvey of Rogers State (10th, 31:15.6) were the only two runners in the top 15 not running for Colorado-based schools.
The next-highest finisher for the ENMU men was Garrett Meyer (111th, 34:30.47). Other Greyhound runners were Lorenzo Juarez (115th, 34:36.1), Louis Bolander (151st, 36:15.72), Marcel Skalecki (154th, 36:24.11), Christian Monroy (162nd, 36:56.14) and Benjamin Lantz (173rd, 37:57.05).
In women’s competition, Adams State had the top three finishers and 26 team points to easily top Colorado Mines (82) and Western State (87). Medalist Malena Grover finished at 5:39, with just five seconds separating her and teammates Eliish and Roisin Flanagan.
The Greyhounds had two finishers in the top 100, with Coley Norcross 77th at 23:49.7 and Abby Kepfer 89th at 24:10.71. Other ENMU finishers were Mason Swanson (133rd, 25:01.86), Cynthia Tovar (135th, 25:02.22), Nancy Rodriguez (143rd, 25:16.73) and Sierra Quinones (164th, 26:10.81).
