ENMU football team ranked ninth in Super Region Poll

PORTALES — It may be the most productive bye week ever.

The Eastern New Mexico University football team was off this past weekend, but the Greyhounds’ success on the field prior to that has earned them a good deal of credibility in the national polls.

On the heels of moving up three spots to 21st in the AFCA Division II poll, the Hounds landed ninth in Super Region Four, part of a national Super Region Poll.

ENMU is 6-1 overall, 5-1 against Lone Star Conference competition, and is currently on a four-game winning streak. The Greyhounds are the LSC’s second-place team.

Midwestern State and Texas A&M-Commerce, the Hounds’ two chief rivals in the LSC, also made it into Super Region Four’s top 10. Midwestern State, currently leading the LSC with a 5-0 record (6-0 overall) is ranked fourth in Super Region Four. Texas A&M-Commerce — third in LSC play at 4-1 but holding the same 6-1 overall record as Eastern — is ranked eighth in Super Region Four, a notch higher than the Hounds.

Winona State tops Super Region Four with an 8-0 record, followed by Central Washington (8-0) in second and Minnesota State (8-0) in third.

After Midwestern State, Humboldt State is ranked fifth at 6-1. Sioux Falls and Colorado Mesa, both 7-1, are ranked sixth and seventh, respectively.

In at 10th behind Texas A&M-Commerce and ENMU is Minnesota Duluth (6-2).

Indiana (Pa.) is No. 1 in Super Region One with an 8-0 record. Wingate sits atop Super Region Two at 7-0, with Northwest Missouri State (8-0) ranked first in Super Region Three. See page 2B for the complete poll.

Eastern returns to action on Saturday, hosting conference foe Texas A&M-Kingsville (3-5 overall, 2-4 LSC) at Greyhound Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
