Former daycare owners permitted to travel

October 18, 2017

PORTALES — An order for out-of-state travel was granted by Judge Donna Mowrer on Tuesday to the former Portales daycare owners charged with leaving two children in a hot car in July.

Maliyah Jones, 22 months, was pronounced dead and Aubrianna Loya, 3, was critically injured after officials said they were left in a hot car for 90 minutes by Sandi Taylor, 31, and her mother, Mary Taylor, 62, the former owners of Taylor Tots daycare.

The Taylors — who were indicted for one count of child abuse resulting in great bodily harm and one count of child abuse resulting in death — were granted travel to Roswell for doctors’ appointments, and to Texas and Oklahoma for Christmas, according to 9th Judicial District Attorney Andrea Reeb.

The Taylors’ trials are set for January, records show.
