Angelo State beats ENMU women in soccer

PORTALES — If you’re the Angelo State women’s soccer team, the mantra for the weekend is likely, “Better late than never.”

The Rambelles got the game’s lone goal from Trenadey Scott just 3 minutes and 40 seconds into the game, and moved back into first place in the Lone Star Conference with a 1-0 victory Saturday at Greyhound Stadium.

Angelo State (8-2-1, 5-1-1 LSC), sixth in the South Central Region entering the contest, ended up staying the evening in Portales after a series of lightning delays cut short their original 7 p.m. Friday matchup.

The teams initially agreed to resume the match at 10 a.m., with Angelo State up 2-0 and 17:47 to go in the first half. On Saturday morning, however, it was announced the teams would just start with a clean slate.

The goal by Scott, the LSC’s leading scorer, snapped the longest home shutout streak the Greyhounds (2-7-4, 1-4-2) had seen in eight years at three consecutive games and 332:18 in total action. The streak included scoreless ties against West Texas A&M and Midwestern State.

For the Greyhounds , Keyara Zuniga and Ariel Lopez each had two shots, with one on goal. Greyhound keeper Alejandra Camarillo, the reigning LSC Defensive Player of the Week, had four saves as the Rambelles held a 7-5 edge in shots.

The Greyhounds end their home season today with a 1 p.m. contest against Texas Permian Basin.
