Tour de Taco calling all cyclists

CLOVIS — Calling all cyclists: The 10th annual Tour De Taco is scheduled Saturday, a 20-, 40- or 60-mile bike ride to support Boy Scouts Troop 226.

The course begins at Clovis’ Taco Box and will feature rest stops with water and fruit at the 10- and 20-mile markers where riders can turn around or continue to the Portales Taco Box at the 30-mile mark before heading back to the Clovis start/finish line.

Registration is $40.

“We do it to promote cycling, to promote fun, activity and comrardarie,” Taco Box owner Tom Martin said. “It’s for all ages, it’s for all levels of cyclists and it’s a fun event.”

Members of the Boy Scouts will provide aid at the rest stops and will man a support wagon that will monitor the course and provide assistance to riders.

“Without them it would not occur,” Martin said of the Boy Scouts’ help with putting on the event.

When it’s over, the Boy Scouts will receive a check for at least $1,500 to help pay for their summer activities, Martin said.

Participants will receive a T-shirt, gift card and more.

Martin said he expects about 100 riders to participate, about the same number as last year, and said participants will come from as far away as Dallas for the ride.

Registration will begin at 7 a.m. at the Clovis Taco Box location, the ride will begin at 8 a.m. and the Boy Scouts will provide support until 2 p.m.
