1982: J.A. "Mac" McDaniel, honorary campaign chairman for the Curry County United Way, was set to give a short talk at the kickoff of the annual fundraising effort.

McDaniel was a longtime supporter of the United Way, and had led the corporate division with the highest per capita gift for the past seven years.

"I believe anyone with good health, a job, and who has not had a major health problem is very fortunate and should be willing to share in this some way with the less fortunate," McDaniel said.

"I may not agree totally with where every dollar goes, but nothing is perfect. So let's all do our share to make this work."

1972: Voters from Dora and Causey were busy casting ballots in the Dora High School lobby in a special mid-year election to select five new school board members after the state Board of Education had ordered the Causey school district to consolidate with the Dora school district earlier in the summer.

In 1971-72, Causey was the smallest school district in New Mexico with about 90 students.

Dora superintendent Guy Luscombe reported that 13 candidates were on the ballot for the five seats. Donald Fraze, Hank Merrick, Rodney Thetford, K.V. Victor and Jim Williamson were elected to the first board of the consolidated system.
