SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Eastern New Mexico’s women’s soccer team came oh-so-close to bagging its first win of the season Friday, but wound up settling for a 2-2 tie against Texas A&M International.
The Greyhounds had built a 2-0 lead by the 34th minute of the first half. Samantha Fabela gave Eastern a 1-0 edge in the 31st minute, scoring off an assist from Ariel Lopez. Just over three minutes later, Jaci Sievers scored on a bouncer, with Makeyan Kalmbach assisting.
The Hounds still led 2-1 at halftime. But Cio Bargallo, who had scored A&M-International’s first goal, scored another with seconds to play in regulation, this one on a penalty kick. Neither team could find the net through two overtime periods, and both had to accept a tie.
Eastern New Mexico’s record moved to 0-1-2 as a result, while Texas A&M-International went to 1-1-1.
The Greyhounds are back in action Sunday at St. Mary’s.
